Background
Zarina E. Castro grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and attended Salpointe High School, graduating in 1972 as valedictorian. She moved to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago, where she received her A.B. in 1976. After working for four years at the Orthogenic School, a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children, at the University of Chicago, she went to law school, to Chicago-Kent College of Law for one year, and then to the Law School at the University of Chicago, where she received her J.D. in 1984.
Green Office
Zarina E. Castro practices from her home office. Her home in Walden is off the grid, and relies primarily on photovoltaic power for all the electric office needs.
Zarina has an addition to her home that uses straw bale construction. Straw bale construction uses this renewable resource for insulation.
Zarina's office uses renewably sourced or recycled paper products. She also recycles all recyclable materials used in the office and in her home.

Zarina E. Castro was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in Chicago in 1998. She currently serves as deacon at St. John’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church in Stowe Vermont. She was a member of the Diocesan Commission on Ministry from 2002 through 2008.
Zarina was a member of the Legal Advisory Panel of the ACLU of Vermont from 2000 through 2006, and was member of its Board for three years.
